Noah Manyika: Zimbabwe's Leaders Are Narcissistic, Its Citizens 'Are Insensitive To Pain' {Full Thread}
The symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) our leaders suffer from including a long-term pattern of exaggerated self-importance, complete lack of consideration of the pain inflicted on others, and a total incapacity to give credence to the perceptions of others.
Unfortunately, we also have a citizenry increasingly suffering from Congenital Analgesia (inability to feel pain) and which as a result no longer reacts normally to the suffering inflicted on it by its leaders.
The buffoonery of our leaders might provide comic relief, but it does not prevent the needless deaths of women and children in hospitals that have no life-saving medication.
FeedbackThe incompetence of Health Minister Obadiah Moyo and the callousness of Mthuli Ncube et al is no laughing matter. It is the reason the burials of loved ones who have died prematurely must be hurried to avoid corpses decomposing in mortuaries that have no power.
The fact that those who threaten doctors, teachers and any citizen exercising their constitutional right to demand what is rightfully theirs deliver their threats in broken English, or that they confuse an “L” for an “R” does not make them any less deadly.
What we are witnessing daily in our country is the “savaging” of the people by narcissistic leaders who must eat first, leaders who value political dominance above saving and improving the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans.
… we can’t forget that gov does not produce the resources it mismanages. Ncube’s surplus which pays for the pres luxury jet, his convoy and hefty salaries for senior members of the security and intelligence services at the expense of teachers, nurses and doctors who are our money.
The expensive lifestyles of cabinet ministers and the huge salaries of senior members of the security services are funded by the transactional tax contributed by long-suffering Zimbabweans, including the vendor who cannot afford his/her medical care and children’s school fees.
If the leadership we have today is all that we are capable of, if this is the best we can do, then those who said we could not possibly have built the ancient cities at Mapungubwe, Great Zimbabwe, Khami etc. were right.
If we believe that there are any serious investors who will pour their money into a country where all basic infrastructure is falling apart simply because our leaders say the country is open for business, then we shall be forever miserable.
… No change shall come to Zimbabwe until we redeem ourselves from this curse. Is there not a cause?
