Top ZANU PF Official Evicts Miners From Their Gold Mine
ZANU PF losing candidate for Mbizo Constituency, Kwekwe in the 2018 elections, Vongaishe Mupereri has been dragged to court after he allegedly grabbed a mine and illegally evicted its owners.
Daily News reports that Mupereri evicted Calvin and Estearn Mutema and Gift Chakupa who are now seeking a court order that stops Mupereri and his co-defendant, Gladys Chivere from interfering with their operations. In its court papers, the trio said:
On September 5, 2019, we obtained a certificate from the ministry of Mines to mine gold at Etna XY5 situated on Inesdale Estate, Kadoma …The problem we are now facing is that the respondents (Mupereri and Chivere) are disturbing our operations and they even unlawfully evicted us from the claim we are legally mining.
FeedbackThe trio also attached a letter dated September 10, 2019 from Mashonaland West provincial mining director to Kadoma police indicating that the trio is the bonafide owner of the mine.
Mupereri and Chivere have not yet responded. Meanwhile, it is imperative to note that Mupereri has previously defied a Court order to order “his youths and artisanal miners” to leave Gaika mine in Kwekwe.
He was also recently filmed threatening to unleash machete gangs on residents who would not attend a ZANU PF meeting.
