Bulawayo City Running Out of Burial Space - Report
The City of Bulawayo is reportedly pushing for cremation as burial space runs out in the country’s second-largest city, The Chronicle reports.
According to the publication, Bulawayo councillors are pushing for exorbitant burial fees as compared to cremation fees to encourage people to choose cremation over burial.
Bulawayo Ward 1’s Councillor Mlandu Ncube speaking to the publication confirmed that Bulawayo was running out of burial space and said:
Burial costs in the city should be reviewed to discourage burials in the city. This would save the fast running out space for burial. More information should be given to residents regarding cremations
The City has reportedly hiked burial fee rates by 700% in the past 5 months and has even proposed double burials in the same grave.
