G40 May Have Abducted & Tortured MDCA Activists - Mangwana

Ndavaningi Nick Mangwana, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, said that remnants of the late former President Robert Mugabe’s regime (G40) may have been involved in the alleged abduction and torture of three MDC Alliance youth assembly officials.

Speaking on New Zim TV’s Current Affairs programme, The Agenda on Wednesday, Mangwana absolved State agents from accusations of complicity, saying the abductions were either faked or a third force was involved. Mangwana said:

We have three scenarios. Number one is, it (abduction) was staged; number two; there is a third force from within.

You know the remnants of the old regime that did this maybe. Scenario number three is there is actually a combination of these remnants within and the opposition working together to smear the government.

We do not know which one is the correct one. That is why we are investigating. One thing we are very sure of is the government did not sanction this. So, we did not do this.

However, an international human rights lawyer Pedzisai Ruhanya has scoffed at Mangwana’s assertions. Said Ruhanya:

There is only one scenario that [you] deny; state complicit. No one can abduct anyone from POLICE.

Zimbabwe doesn’t have a THIRD FORCE. There is only one coercive force in Zimbabwe; the security apparatus and its various organs.

Any talk of third force over abductions is simply arrogant denial associated with ZANU PF since Gukurahundi. Simply put, ZANU PF is the third force.
