Beitbridge Border Post Authorities Intercept 21 Commercial Trucks Smuggling Goods Into Zimbabwe
Authorities at the country’s busied port of entry the Beitbridge Border port has intercepted 21 trucks being used to smuggle goods into the country, The Herald reports.
This was revealed by Zimra’s regional manager for Beitbridge, Mr Innocent Chikuniwhile on a tour of the border with Finance and Economic Development Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube. Chikuni said:
Working with other stakeholders we have been able to seize goods from 56 offenders and impounded 22 motor vehicles between April and May at undesignated entry points along the Limpopo River.
FeedbackIn addition, smuggling activities through the border post are surging because of the increased traffic. Between March and May we recorded 81 seizures including 21 commercial trucks & trailers.
Beitbridge Border post has become the gateway between South Africa and all Southern African states ever since Botswana closed its borders due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
