Mthuli Ncube Expected To Present The Mid Term Budget Today

The Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube is expected to present the mid-term budget today, where he is expected to increase government workers’ wages, restore confidence in the economy and announce measures that will help the country fight the novel coronavirus, ZBC reports.

People who spoke to the publication spoke about what they are expecting to be addressed by the Finance Minister in the midterm budget. Fiscal policy and tax expert, Dumisani Ngwenya said the government should do something to instill confidence in the economy:

It is now all upon the minister to focus on what can be done to instill confidence in this economy and create a favourable climate for growth,

Traditional Grains Producers Association chairman, Mr Basil Nyabadza said the government should do something to reduce the huge import bill:

We are currently facing a huge import bill on food items, given the uncertainties within the climate change the review should focus on what can be done to improve yields by offering incentives to the farmers. The issue of settlement of the fees is critical as we need firms to bounce back but it is all about how the settlement of charges from the government can be done given the us dollar and the local currency transactions

While Insolvency and Restructuring Association of Zimbabwe president, Claudious Nhemwa said the government must focus on policies that will make the economy recover:

Companies are operating below the initial growth rates so if something can be done to the effect that the economy can recover and offer recovery then that will be good for the whole economy.
