Zimbabwe’s Finance Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube Friday officially launched the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange which he said would be a shame changer in the trading of securities in the country.
Observers would not help but notice that the premise was poor compared to the Mutare’s Stock Exchange that was built in 1897, just 7 years after the British had arrived in Zimbabwe. See the Mutare Stock Exchange below.
Forty years later, the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange was built and the expectation is that it should be better even in appearance due to the advancement in technology. See the picture below.
Environmental activist, Centre for Natural Resources Governance (CNRG) director Farai Maguwu suspects underhand dealings could have resulted in the poor architectural design and building of the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange.
Maguwu is keen to know how the company that built the structure was awarded the tender saying it would not be surprising to find out that tax the tender was won corruptly.
He speaks amid reports of rampant corruption by some government officials.
