Mosimane's Al Ahly Wins CAF Champions League
Former Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has made history after winning the second CAF Champions League with Egyptian giants Al Ahly on Friday in an all-Egyptian CAF Champions League final in Cairo.
Mosimane won his first Champions League with South African champions Sundowns after beating Zamalek 3-1 on goal aggregate in the 2016 title decider.
The Friday dramatic 2-1 victory was also against Zamalek and it earned Ahly a record-extending ninth Champions League title and first since 2013.
Mosimane became the third coach after Argentine Oscar Fullone and Egyptian Mahmoud el Gohary to win the Champions League title with two clubs.
Ahly took a fifth-minute lead when Amr el Soleya headed home a corner kick into the net but Mahmoud Abdelrazek Hassan Fadlala, ‘Shikabala’ levelled with a memorable solo goal 31 minutes later.
Mohamed ‘Afsha’ Magdy scored his third goal of the African campaign shortly before stoppage time to give Ahly a record-extending 20th CAF title.
