Khupe Sought ED's Nephew The SACU Head's Assistance With The Congress Yesterday - Report
MDC T interim leader Thokozani Khupe reportedly sought the help of alleged President Mnangagwa’s nephew Tabani Vusa Mpofu and the head of his Special Anti Corruption Unit (SACU) yesterday during the party’s chaotic congress.
This was revealed by Nelson Chamisa’s Lawyer Advocate Thabani Mpofu whose name is similar to that of the SACU head. Mpofu shared a photo of his call log and said Khupe called him mistaking him for his namesake as she was seeking his “assistance”.
Said Advocate Mpofu in a tweet:
The fact that I “almost” share a name with ED’s Tabani Vusa Mpofu has led to interesting confusion in the past. Today I got a call from Mama Khupe, wanting “my” assistance with the ongoing congress. I hope she finally managed to talk to the right person and was duly assisted.
Speculation on what Khupe classified as “assistance” on her call to Mpofu is already rife on social media with Jonathan Moyo saying one doesn’t have to guess what Khupe wanted with Mpofu:
One does not have to be a rocket scientist to figure out the assistance that @DrThoko_Khupeneeded from Tabani Vusa Mpofu: SACU to have one of her contestants arrested and charged on allegations of abusing MDC-T funds. No prize for guessing who!
Khupe yesterday lost to Douglas Mwonzora who polled over 800 votes against her 118 votes. She suspended Mzonzora before vote counting was completed.
