Elephant Kills Pregnant Woman In Muzarabani
An elephant reportedly killed a pregnant woman in Muzarabani this week. This was revealed by Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority Tinashe Farawo who shared the unfortunate news in a tweet that said:
It is with great sadness that a 37year old pregnant woman was killed by an elephant in Muzarabani District. @Zimparks rangers from Nyamaneche on the ground tracking the problem elephant.
Meanwhile, elephants were reportedly destroying Beitbridge’s crops threatening to wipe out the region’s expected bumper harvest according to officials and villagers who spoke to different publications last month.
Zimbabwe is battling an elephant overpopulation, at some point last year Zimbabwe had an elephant population of 88 000 against the country’s carrying capacity of 55 000 which according to authorities increases the chances of human and wildlife interactions which can be dangerous.
