Police & Citizens Are Partners In Fighting Crime -Matanga
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga Wednesday said the police and citizens are partners in fighting crime in communities.
He made the remarks while officiating at the handover of 9 vehicles sourced by the Crime Consultative Committee CID Property Harare. Matanga.
Indeed no investor would want to put his or her money where there are high levels of crime and violence. In equal measure, businesses in any locality want the police to guarantee and safeguard their safety and security including that of their property. It is such realisation that motivates our unwavering desire to continuously forge partnerships with various stakeholders in an endeavour to promote peace and security in all communities. I am thus pleased by today’s important event which is a realisation that policing is a shared responsibility, he said.
FeedbackRepresentatives of the CID Property Harare Crime Consultative Committee pledged continued support towards ensuring the safety of citizens and security of properties.
Matanga speaks when the relationship between citizens and the police is on a low note due to police brutality on members of the public.
The police and citizens used to be good partners in fighting crime but now it is commonplace to find police officers being assaulted by members of the public.
Members of the public would apprehend wrongdoers and surrender them to the police but now some communities choose to deal with the offenders themselves arguing that the police will be bribed and release them in no time.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has, however, since embarked on a rebranding exercise to mend relations with the public and to cleanse its tainted image.
