'A Great Honour', Murambadoro Speaks On Warriors Role

Warriors assistant coach Energy “Gokwe” Murambadoro said it’s an honour to be drafted into the senior men’s national team set-up to help revive the country’s faltering Qatar 2022 World Cup campaign.

Newly-appointed Warriors caretaker coach Norman Mapeza, who replaced fired Croatian Zdravko Logarušić on Wednesday, named Murambadoro, Triangle mentor Taurai Mangwiro, and Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu as his assistants.

Murambadoro lauded Mapeza for adding him to the Warriors technical team and believes Zimbabwe can still qualify for the 2022 World Cup despite accruing a single point from two Group G matches. He said:

It’s a great honour and am very humbled. It is the biggest job in the country. Big thanks to coach Mapeza for trusting me to be in his technical team.

In terms of qualifying, what I can say is anything is possible in football. I have been there as a player and I have been in many battles as a player and hope to impart my experience to this generation of Warriors.

Mapeza and his assistants were appointed on short-term contracts ahead of Group G qualifiers against Ghana (home and away), Ethiopia (home) and South Africa (away).
