Botswana's Acting President, Slumber Tsogwane, To Participate At SADC Summit

Botswana’s Acting President, Slumber Tsogwane, will lead the country’s delegation at the Extraordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government on 12 January 2022.

The summit, which will be held in Lilongwe, Malawi, will review the mandate of the SADC Mission to Mozambique (SAMIM).

A statement released by the Government of Botswana this Sunday read:

HIS HONOUR MR. SLUMBER TSOGWANE, ACTING PRESIDENT TO PARTICIPATE AT THE EXTRAORDINARY SADC SUMMIT

GABORONE, 9th January 2022: The Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation wishes to inform that His Honour Mr Slumber Tsogwane, Acting President of the Republic of Botswana, will participate at the Extraordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government, on 12th January 2022. The Summit will be held in Lilongwe, Malawi.

The main objective of the Summit is to review the mandate of the SADC Mission to Mozambique (SAMIM).

The deployment of SAMIM was approved by the Extraordinary SADC Summit of 23rd June 2021, to support Mozambique’s efforts to combat acts of terrorism and violent extremism in the country’s Cabo Delgado Province.

The Extraordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government will be preceded by the Extraordinary Meetings of the Organ Troika Summit and the SADC Council of Ministers, which will take place on 11th January 2022.

The Acting President’s delegation will comprise Honourable Dr Lemogang Kwape, Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation; Honourable Mr Kagiso Mmusi, Minister of Defence, Justice and Security; and Senior Government Officials.
