Akim Abdul is an Australian based Zimbabwean goalkeeper who is the son of former Zimbabwe Warriors goalminder Abdul-Karim Abdul.

Background

Akim Abdul was born Abdul-Karim Jordan Akim Abdul on 17 October 1995 to Christinah De-Souza and Abdul-Karim Abdul in Harare, Zimbabwe. He has 3 elder brothers and a sister. His parents would relocate to Australia in 2007 and he would leave together with his parents and sister. it would happen that after a year he would take up goalkeeping gloves in the foot steps of his father.

Education

Akim attended Westridge Primary School in Harare up until Grade 6, and on relocation to Melbourne, Australia he would study at Craigieburn South Primary and complete his studies at a sport excellence Secondary Maribyrnong Secondary College where he received a sport scholarship for his studies.

Career

Akim plays for Sunshine George Cross Football Club, an Australian national premier league 1 team as their first team, second choice goalkeeper. He started playing between the goal posts at the age of 13 and has received numerous awards for his performances.

In years 2012 and 2013 Akim would participate in an all African tournament known as Asfa Australian Somalian football association where he truned out for a team named Carlton. They would win the cup in 2012 and he'd receive the Goal Keeper of the tournament award. In 2013 Carlton would be runners-up where again he received the Goal Keeper of the tournament award. This would be the first time in the history of the tournament that a goalkeeper would win back to back goal keeper of the tournament awards.

Zimbabwe Under 23 Caps

In March 2015, Akim was one of the two new goalkeepers that the technical team invited for trials ahead of the 2015 All Africa Games match Zimbabwe was to host against Cameroon in the first leg of the final round of qualifiers on the weekend of 21–22 March 2015.[1]
