Astra Indusries Limited (AIL) is a manufacturing and distribution company that is involved in chemical trading and blending activities and manufacturing paint and protecting coatings. It comprises of 2 subsidiaries i.e Astra Holdings Limited & Astra Chemical (Private) Limited. Astra Chemical is involved in chemical trading and blending activities.
Background
Astra Industries is one of three entities formed from the demerging of Astra Limited Group in February 2001. These three include Astra Industries Limited, Cairns Holdings Limited and Tractive Power Holdings Limited. Astra Chemical, was setup up by National Chemical Products South Africa in the 1980s Astra Paints commenced business in Harare as Herbert Evans paint in 1947. Through the years, it merged with other paint companies like Titanium Paints to eventually become Plascon Paints, whose majority stake was then acquired by the government of Zimbabwe through the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe in 1983. The paint concern was then renamed Astra Paints in line with the larger group, Astra Corporation. [1]

Astra Holdings Limited had an Astra Steel Division which used to be a company called Henry Dunn Steel formed in 1946 but it was discontinued in April 2011
