Bhora Mugedhi

Bhora Mugedhi, a Shona language phrase which literally means "to kick the ball into the goal nets" was a campaign by Zanu-PF leaders in the run-up to the 2008 harmonised elections meant to drum up support for "scoring it for Zanu-PF" by voting for the party's presidential candidate, Robert Mugabe.

The campaign largely failed, as party members who did not want Robert Mugabe for president, clandestinely ran their own campaign called Bhora Musango (literally translated "deliberately kick the ball off the pitch, instead of scoring it").

Mugabe lost the first round of the elections to MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai. Ultimately, the failure to win the elections led to the military intervening in support of Robert Mugabe and a Government of National Unity being negotiated.
