Guthrie Zhokinyi is a Zimbabwean footballer who was born on 8 May 1983. Guthrie Zhokinyi is a veteran soccer player who during his footballing days played for Dynamos Football Club and Triangle United Football Club as a defender. Tollgate as he is affectionately known by soccer loving fans also played for the Zimbabwe Warriors.
Background
He was born on the 8th of May 1983 in Harare. As a young man from the dusty streets of Chitungwiza, Guthrie Zhokinyi had a burning ambition to become a great football player. He played for Zimbabwean football giants Dynamos Football Club, CAPS FC formerly Shooting Stars Football Club, Triangle United Football Club.
Education
Zhokinyi attended Seke 3 High School for his secondary education.
Career
Zhokinyi kick started his football career playing for ZUPCO Harare from 1994 to 2000 before leaving for Davichem from 2000 up to 2003.[1]. In 2004 he joined Catercraft a Division 1 club the but only lasted for a season before signing for Douglas Warriors where he also lasted for a season in 2005. Between 2006 and 2009 mid season, Zhokinyi was in the books of Shootings Stars Football Club where he managed to establish his name and attracted the attention of Dynamos Football Club who eventually signed him. He played for Dynamos from 2009 up to 2012 when he was banned by ZIFA after being implicated in the Asiagate <ref[2], ‘’BBC’’, Published 19 October 2012, Retrieved: 18 September 2019</ref>. After his life ban was lifted in 2016, Zhokinyi joined Triangle during the start of the 2017 football season. He had a taste of international football whilst turning out for Dynamos during the 2010 and 2011 CAF Champions League tourneys.
