15 people were killed last night near Dema Police station and the Kandava Secondary School along the Chitungwiza-Hwedza road when a kombi they were in hit a haulage truck head on. According to reports, the haulage truck was coming from Hwedza and was transporting tobacco for sale in Harare. The driver of the truck reportedly lost control of his vehicle and it encroached into the lane of the kombi which was going the opposite direction resulting in a head-on collision.
According to reports the eye witnesses added that the truck’s head lights appeared faulty, a situation which might have impaired the vision of the driver.
According to reports, 12 people died on the spot and 3 died later on admission at Chitungwiza General hospital. 11 passengers are said to be in critical condition.
This is the second accident in less than three months to end the lives of so many people at once. On 3 March this year, an accident in Kwekwe claimed the lives of 32 people and was declared a national disaster.
