<vote /> Nera head of legal affairs Douglas Mwonzora yesterday accused Zec of working with the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) to frustrate the implementation of critical electoral reforms.

Mwonzora said,

The CIO and Zec have resorted to creating political parties in order to dilute the influence of Nera in the ongoing discussions on electoral reforms. However, Nera is going to up its ante and the CIO, Mugabe, Zanu-PF and Zec are in for a rude awakening. The struggle continues and victory is certain.

However Zec chairperson Justice Rita Makarau denied hiring CIO operatives and “bogus” opposition parties to disrupt the meeting,

There is no way we can know as Zec that this is a bogus political party or not, because there is no registration of political parties in Zimbabwe.

Nera convener Didymus Mutasa said Nera would continue to hold regular meetings to strategise,

It is aluta continua, we will up our fight for electoral reforms. As we speak, we are in a meeting and we are hoping that Mwonzora has a legal strategy to deal with this, while nationwide demonstrations put up political pressure.
