Peter Nyama was born in 1946. He was the second born in a family of two other boys and a younger sister.
He became Rhodesia's most expensive player in 1968 after his then club Tornados valued him at 10 000 when Zambian club Roan United wanted to sign him. He eventually stayed in Rhodesia and played for Chibuku Shumba. Despite being the league's top goal scorer in 1970 he was left out of Rhodesia's World Cup matches against Australia by then coach Danny MacLennan.
