Background

Tinashe was born Tinashe Jorgensen Kachingwe on 6 February 1993 in Kentucky in USA.[1] Her father Michael Kachingwe hails from Zimbabwe whilst her mother Aimie is from Denmark.[2] Tinashe is the first child in a family of three. She went to Crescent Valley High School.[1]

Career

Before being a singer, Tinashe was once a model. She claimed that when she was 3, she was already into modelling.[1] From being a model, she ventured into acting and made her first appearance in 2000 in a film Cora Unashamed.[1] From then on, she also starred in The Polar Express and from 2008 to 2009, she was part of the Two and a Half Men.[1]

In 2007, Tinashe joined The Stunners which was an Afro-Pop band composed of female members. The Stunners clinched a deal to tour with Justin Bieber on his tour, the Justin Bieber My World Tour.[3] The group however disbanded in 2011. Tinashe seized the opportunity to launch her solo career. Her first solo performance was on 3 May 2011.[1]

In 2012, she released her first mixtape, In Case We Die and this was followed by another mixtape, Reverie. It was after the release of this tape that she became part of the RCA Record Company. She released her third mixtape, Black Water. Tinashe hogged the media’s limelight after the release of 2 On . In October 2014, she released her first debut album ‘’Aquirus’’.[1] She has worked with ASAP Rocky, Usher, Kid Ink, and Schoolboy Q. amongst others.
