Whawha Football Club is a Zimbabwean club in the country's top flight league the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League. The club is owned by the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services and based in Gweru. They were promoted to the ZPSL at the end of the 2019 season after winning the ZIFA Central Region Division One Championship. They become the second team in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League alongside Tenax Football Club to be owned by the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services. They currently face a dilemna after getting promotion because their coach have no requisite coaching qualifications needed. This has been compounded by the fact that Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) hasn't conducted the course in more than 4 years now.

Background

Whawha FC (sometimes spelt as Whawha or Hwahwa) is a Zimbabwean football club based in Whawha on the outskirts of Gweru. The club was founded in 1978. The club once gained promotion to the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League in 2014 but were relegated in 2015.[1] Football administration in Zimbabwe especially at club level has for long been the preserve of men while women often find their niche in sports such as netball and volleyball. However, Whawha were the first to provide a woman who seem determined to break into the “boys club” and has scored a first by becoming the first and only chairperson of a Premier Soccer League (PSL) side in Zimbabwe. This is Musa Ntonga, the chairperson of Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPSC) 2015 league debutants Whawha Football Club.[2]
