Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) is an educational council mandated with promoting and coordinating education provided by institutions of higher education. The council also regulates the determination and maintenance of standards of teaching, examinations, academic qualifications and research in institutions of higher education.

Contents

Background

ZIMCHE was created through an act of parliament Chapter 25:27 which was promulgated in 2006. The act establishes ZIMCHE and the procedures for the registration and accreditation of institutions of higher education.


Mission

To promote quality enhancement and development of higher education in Zimbabwe, and act as a regulator and vanguard agency for high standards in teaching, research and academic qualifications.

Vision

To be a world class national quality assurance body whose positive impact on higher education is recognised and acknowledged both nationally and internationally.

Functions

ZIMCHE is a quality assurance agency whose overall function is quality assurance. Its functions can be subdivided into three categories as follows:
