Job Description

Applicants are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the vacant post that has arisen in the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission.

Reports To: Director Education, Promotion, Research And Advocacy.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops research and knowledge management policy for the Commission.
  • Identify areas for research in line with the ZHRC mandate.
  • Plan, undertake and direct human rights research for the Commission.
  • Coordinate baseline surveys with critical stakeholders on human rights.
  • Conduct quarterly trend surveys and disseminate research findings to the relevant department and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare research papers for national and international conferences or seminars.
  • Document and develop knowledge products, innovative practices and lessons-learnt documents for the Commission.
  • Manage the implementation of knowledge management and research activities of the Commission.
  • Collect and synthesizes program performance data and produce analytical reports to inform management and strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare advocacy papers in liaison with the Director.
  • Represent the Commission as necessary at meetings, conferences.
  • Establish and develop human rights resource centres/libraries in line with best practices.
  • Appraise, supervise and offer advice to subordinates.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Social Science degree, Bachelor of Laws (Honours), or any relevant qualification from an accredited tertiary institution.
  • A relevant Master's degree is an added advantage.
  • Aminimum 13 years' experience conducting research.
  • Excellent research and knowledge management skills.
  • Good report writing and presentation skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills and strong analytical skills
  • Ability and tenacity to work with Government and other stakeholders
  • Must be a person of high integrity, professionalism, assertiveness and innovation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft packages.
  • Proficiency in at least one statistical software package e.g. Excel or SPSS
  • A clean class four (4) driver's license.
