Job Description

Applicants are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the vacant posts that have arisen in the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission.

 Reports To: Provincial Human Rights Officer EPRA Station.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development, planning and implementation of educational strategies (that include outreaches, seminars and training workshops) to raise awareness and respect for human rights.
  • Organize and participate in activities that promote human rights and freedoms such as commemorations of key human rights days, exhibitions, radio and tv programmes, press releases, advocacy and lobbying campaigns, road shows and other multi-media methods.
  • Draft concept notes, discussion points, speeches and funding proposals for the Department.
  • Draft and update the Commission's information, education and communication materials including human rights guides, fact sheets, manuals, pamphlets and content for the website.
  • Assists in the review and monitoring of the Commission's promotional methodologies.
  • Assists in the conducting of research by the Commissioh in fulfillment of its mandate to conduct research into issues relating to human rights, freedoms and social justice.
  • Provides technical support to assigned Thematic Working Group. 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor of Education degree (Honours), Bachelor of Social Work Science degree, Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of laws (Honours) degree or any relevant qualification from an accredited tertiary institution.
  • At least one-year experience in conducting research and training in human rights and development work.
  • Have an understanding ofthe legal framework governing human rights institutions.
  • Knowledgeable and conversant with international human rights treaties, international human rights systems including continental, regional and national human rights protective mechanisms.
  • Must have strong research and report writing skills.
  • Able to work under pressure Aptitude forworking with computers.
