Job Description

Applicants are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the vacant posts that have arisen in the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission.

Reports To: Provincial Human Rights Officer M&I Station.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate on monitoring and assessment of the observance of human rights and freedoms in Zimbabwe.
  • Monitor media (electronic, print etc) daily and come up with reports recommending specific action to be taken.
  • Inspect prisons, places of detention, refugee camps, mental institutions and care institutions for the elderly, children and persons with disability and produce reports with appropriate recommendations.
  • Drafts concept notes, discussion points, speeches and funding proposals for the Department.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual monitoring and inspections reports.
  • Provides input into internal and external materials including information and communication tools. 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor of laws (Honours) degree, Social Sciences, Social Work from an accredited tertiary institution.
  • At least one years' experience in human rights and development work.
  • Have an understanding of the legal and policy frameworks related to promotion, protection and enforcement of human rights institutions.
  • Knowledgeable and conversantwith international human rights treaties, international, regional and domestic human rights systems and protection mechanisms.
  • Must have strong report writing and analytical skills.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Aptitude for working with computers.
