A Chinese head of security at Bunyip Gold Mine in Filabusi, Matabeleland South, opened fire on a dozen illegal miners who entered the mine and allegedly stole two sacks of gold ore.
Four of the illegal miners were injured in the shooting which occurred on April 14, 2024.
Two of the injured illegal miners have been admitted to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) in Bulawayo.
One of the miners who was shot in the shoulder had to undergo a chest drain, a procedure in which a narrow tube is inserted between the ribs to sit in the space between the lung and the chest wall. This is done to prevent the backflow of fluid from the tubing into the chest cavity.
<a href="https://cite.org.zw/chinese-mine-security-head-shoots-four-illegal-miners-in-filabusi/">CITE</a> reported sources sources as saying the Chinese worker shot at the illegal miners with live ammunition, accusing them of illegally prospecting for gold in the mine. Said a source:

Police recovered 13 rounds of live ammunition but have not arrested the miner as they were engaged in talks with the Chinese embassy.
</blockquote>
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told CITE they were still investigating the case to determine what happened. He said:

Some illegal gold miners are said to have cut the fence and entered the mine through the breather, taking some gold ore in about two sacks in the process, leading to a scuffle.
Then the head of security reacted and fired some shots, but the illegal miners did not comply. The head of security then shot at four of the illegal miners who sustained injuries while the others fled.

Asked if the Chinese worker would be arrested, Nyathi said the mine was formally registered but the illegal miners committed a criminal act. He said:

There are two aspects to this case: the criminal act by the miners and the shooting incident. This is a registered mine with a valid certificate of operations and permits.
</blockquote>
Nyathi said the 12 illegal miners, armed with machetes and other weapons, returned to the mine to attack the security officers and take away gold ore.
He said Police are conducting investigations, and will issue a detailed statement in due course.

Chinese Mine Security Head Opens Fire On Illegal Miners In Filabusi

A 44-year-old man was arrested for shooting at a motorist who made an abrupt U-turn at a cross junction in front of his vehicle.
In a statement, the ZRP said Onwell Chigorimbo shot the victim’s vehicle’s front right tyre, a Honda Fit, along Chibero Road on 29 February 2024. It said:

Police in Norton have arrested Onwell Chigorimbo (44) for discharging a firearm at a public place along Chibero Road on 29/02/24.
The suspect fired a shot on the ground with an FN Browning Pistol before firing at the front tyre of the victim’s vehicle, a Honda Fit. The vehicle’s front right tyre deflated as a result of the shooting.
The victim had made an abrupt U-turn at a cross junction near Chibero Agricultural College Chibero in front of the suspect’s vehicle, a Toyota Hilux.

In an unrelated incident, Police said three dead bodies were found floating in a well in Muchefa Village, Buhera on 29 February.
Police said investigations are underway to establish how the three people died. The deceased have been identified as Trainer Chibanda (46), Palessa Muchefa (11) and Tirivashe Muchefa (5).

Man (44) Shoots At Motorist For Making Abrupt U-turn In Front Of Him

Three people were injured in Bulawayo Central Business District on Wednesday morning when municipal police fired rubber bullets at disgruntled vendors.
Police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said the injured are admitted at United Bulawayo Hospitals. He said:

The ZRP confirms a shooting incident in which three people were injured after Bulawayo City Council Police fired rubber bullets to disperse a crowd that had gathered to demonstrate against an operation targeting illegal vendors in Bulawayo CBD on 23/01/23 in the morning.
The injured are admitted at United Bulawayo Hospitals.

Asst Comm Nyathi said more details about the shooting incident will be released in due course.
According to journalist Zenzele Ndebele, ZANU PF activists were moving along 5th Street from Robert Mugabe Street to Lobengula Street checking if the vendors are registered to vote. <a href="https://twitter.com/zenzele/status/1628653601806589953">He tweeted</a>:

Those not registered are being encouraged to go and register to vote at ZEC. Those who fail to register by end of this week will lose their vending spaces
In addition to that, all those vendors who are not registered under ward 1 (city centre) should transfer and ensure they vote under ward 1. They should also produce proof of transfer from ZEC.

Three People Shot And Injured In Bulawayo City Centre

A 33-year-old woman from Madziwa, Mashonaland Central Province, narrowly escaped death on Sunday after being shot twice, once on the forehead and on the right ear with an FN pistol by her boyfriend.
Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Major Samuel Chikasha said the shooting victim, Patience Makanika, and her boyfriend Bernard Mpofu (47) of Churuma village in Madziwa, were staying together at Ponesaivanhu business centre in Madziwa.
Sgt Maj Chikasha said the two had an argument on Sunday and Makanika asked her boyfriend to vacate their shared residence. He added:

This did not go down well with Mpofu who got angry, withdrew a pistol and shot his girlfriend once on the forehead and once on the right ear.
Police attended the scene and arrested Mpofu for attempted murder while Makanika was referred to Madziwa Hospital for treatment.

Makanika’s condition is reportedly stable.

Woman Survives After Being Shot Twice By Boyfriend

Police yesterday confirmed the arrest of a security guard who fatally shot a female Zupco conductor Joyce Kuzhumbwa during a robbery at Kadada Shops in Dzivarasekwa 4 soon after 9pm on Monday.
Speaking to The Herald, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the arrested man was Campion Marowa (35). Police recovered a .38 Astra Revolver that had two spent cartridges, meaning it had been fired twice before recovery.
Marowa was arrested on Tuesday,  a few hours after the robbery, by CID homicide detectives in Harare investigating the murder. The Zupco conductor Joyce Kuzhumbwa was killed when the bus was dropping off its last four passengers and initial reports suggest the gunman was the last passenger who got off the bus.
The conductor was shot after she refused to hand over the bag of money during a robbery. Narrating the incident to The Herald, bus owner and Joyce Kuzhumbwa’s employer,  Jeremiah Hove said the driver had gone to the depot saying he had finished work and was told to go back and ferry people to Dzivarasekwa. He said the robbery took place when the bus reached Kadada Shops.
He said:

The driver went to the depot saying he had finished work and was told to go back and ferry people to Dzivarasekwa. He then drove to Dzivarasekwa dropping off passengers and when he reached Dzivarasekwa 4 shops the bus was left with four people, one woman and three men. Upon reaching the shops, the driver was writing in his logbook when he heard the conductor screaming from the back. When he looked back to find out what was taking place he heard a gunshot and he ran away and waited from a distance.
