MDC-T appeals for donations, claims government owes it $3m since 2013
Former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai‘s party MDC-T, has emabarked on a campaign to get donations, as it seeks other means of financing itself. MDC-T, seems to be facing financial difficulties amid claims that it is yet to receive funding from treasury amounting to $3 million since 2013, under the Political Parties Finance Act.
However, MDC-T secretary general Douglas Mwonzora has disputed that the party is facing financial difficulties saying:
The source of finance for the MDC as a political party are the government grant, members’ subscriptions and donations from its members and other people.
FeedbackIt’s normal to fundraise for the party, we are simply fundraising for our activities, it’s a legitimate way of fundraising.
But the government has withheld most of our money. I think we are being owed in excess of $3 million since 2013.
