Zimbabwean engineers set to lose jobs in Namibia
The Namibian government has decided not to renew contracts of 85 Zimbabwean engineers, some of which have been working in the country since 2012 under a government to government agreement, when it expires this year.
An official in the Ministry of Works and Transport, Willem Goeieman confirmed the development to Windhoek Observer and said:
It was a five year agreement and it’s ending next year, but we are not going to renew the agreement. The first group of engineers is due to leave in February and March next year while the last group will leave in 2020. It’s not a termination of the agreement, but we had an option to renew, but we are not going to be renewing.
FeedbackHowever the Namibian government announced a freeze on various construction projects in the country as part of its cost cutting measures.
