Zanu-PF wins Mwenezi East by-election by landslide

Joosbi Omar of Zanu-PF won the Mwenezi East by-election by a landslide. Omar had 18 700 votes while his two rivals combined to make a paltry 868 votes.

Votes were as follows

Joobsi Omar (Zanu PF) 18 700
Welcome Masuku (NCA) – 482
Turner Mhango (Free Zimbabwe Congress Party) – 386
Spoilt Votes – 652

Former Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister Kudakwashe Bhasikiti, now of ZimPF, pulled out before the polls. The by-election followed the death in December last year of Cde Joshua Moyo of Zanu-PF, who was the House of Assembly member for Mwenezi East.

Ommar’s victory means that Zanu-PF controls all of the 26 House of Assembly seats in Masvingo Province.
