Speaking to ZBC News, Home Affairs minister Ignatius Chombo said that Zimbabwe should emulate Angola which used biometric voting in the just ended elections which were won by MPLA which had 61,1% while the opposition party, UNITA had 26,7% of the votes.
Chombo said that Angola used biometric voting and pictures of voters were at the polling stations. He is quoted as saying that the method used by Angola is the way to go for Zimbabwe. However, the national election body, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) announced in January that there will be no biometric voting or any form of electronic voting in 2018 and that the Biometric system being put in place is strictly for registration.
