Mugabe Is Wrong, He Owes Mnangagwa His Support, We Are All Behind ED: "Churches"
A number of religious organisations have said that they will mediate between president Emmerson Mnangagwa and his predecessor former president Robert Mugabe in an effort to reduce tensions between the former allies. Some of the churches have gone as far as saying that Mugabe is being ungrateful as he owes Mnangagwa his support. They also pledged that all the churches would support Mnangagwa.
Patron of the Zimbabwe Amalgamated Churches Council Jimayi Muduvuri said,
What the former president is doing is wrong. He owes the current president support because the two have been together for more than 50 years. If anything, they should be able to talk.
FeedbackNow as the church, we are saying that whoever is pushing Mugabe back into politics is wrong. It is evil to abuse such an elderly person … and all churches are behind the new president.
Tensions between the two men seem to have risen after Mugabe publicly attacked Mnangagwa saying that his family was being harassed and that Mnangagwa is illegitimate. He also publicly endorsed the new opposition political party, the National Patriotic Front (NPF).
