Energy Mutodi's Aides Accused Of Assault, Trying To Burn Rival's Supporters' Huts

Harare businessman and avowed supporter of President Emmerson Mnangagwa Energy Mutodi’s aides have been accused of violence and of attempting to burn a house belonging to supporters of his rival. The aides allegedly tried to burn the house belonging to supporters of Biata Nyamupinga who was the incumbent legislator for Goromonzi West until she was expelled from Zanu-PF.

Said the victim, Catharina Shonhiwa,

…They pulled my husband out and started assaulting him. They entered the house and assaulted me too. They sprayed petrol around our hut and pulled some thatch grass and set it on fire. Fortunately, my daughter, who is in Form 2, rushed to put out the fire before they set the hut ablaze. I managed to get out of the fence and screamed for help. Fellow villagers came when they [assailants] were busy spraying petrol everywhere, including inside the house intending to set it ablaze. After realising villagers had come, they rushed and fled in their car. We managed to identify two of them and we know them as Mutodi’s aides.

Said Nyamupinga,

I called the police and about nine of them attended the scene of the crime. The car was identified and it belongs to (Zanu PF candidate Energy) Mutodi.

Although Mutodi confirmed the reports of violence, he chose to blame the violence on the MDC-T.
