British Minister 'Sickened' By Reports Of Rape By Soldiers, Calls On Mnangagwa To Deal With The Perpetrators
United Kingdom’s joint Minister of State at the Foreign Office and Department for International Development, Harriet Baldwin has urged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to ensure soldiers who raped women during the ongoing violent crackdown on protesters are brought to justice.
Baldwin, who is also Member of Parliament for West Worcestershire, was reacting to a report by iTV news where a Zimbabwean woman named Melody narrated her ordeal at the hands of soldiers. Melody said she was raped by two soldiers while her children watched. Said Baldwin:
SICKENED BY @ITV REPORTS THAT ZIMBABWE’S SECURITY FORCES HAVE RAPED CIVILIANS DURING THEIR VIOLENT CRACKDOWN. SEXUAL VIOLENCE IS AN ATROCITY AND WHO IS COMMANDING THESE FORCES? THE UK URGES @EDMNANGAGWA TO ENSURE THESE PERPETRATORS ARE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE.
FeedbackScores of women are reported to have been sexually assaulted by soldiers who took advantage of the security situation to commit the heinous acts.
