MDC Congress Will Go Ahead As Scheduled - Biti, Mafume
MDC legislator and veteran lawyer Tendai Biti has rubbished a High Court ruling nullifying the entire party executive’s authority. Responding to the ruling on Twitter, Biti said:
The choice of leadership of a political party, the world over, will always be the preserve of members of that party.
No one and certainly not a court of law can choose our leaders. Our Congress, whose preps are at an advanced stage, will proceed on 24 May. Democracy will prevail.
FeedbackDuring an urgent press conference at the party’s headquarters in Harare on Wednesday, party spokesperson Jacob Mafume said:
The MDC congress is irreversible, the choice of leadership of a political party is not a preserve of the judiciary.
MDC will go ahead to elect its leadership at the upcoming Congress, preparations for Congress have reached a high level.
