Trump Attributes Mass Shootings To Mental Illness

US president, Donald Trump, has attributed the Texas and Ohio mass shootings to mental illness. The incidents left 20 people dead in Texas whilst 9 were killed in Ohio.

Trump condemned the shootings saying that the US needed to deal with the perennial issue. He told reporters that the gunmen were very, very seriously mentally ill. He said:

This has been going on for years, for years and years in our country and we have to get it stopped.

Critics, however, incriminated the US president in the shootings saying that he contributed to the problem by championing anti-immigrant policies and by opposing gun control.

BBC reports that the gunman opened fire on a crowded Walmart, El Paso, Texas on Saturday with an assault-style rifle, and surrendered after being confronted by police officers outside the store.

The publication also reports that Connor Betts, 24, opened fire in a popular nightlife district of Dayton, Ohio, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Authorities have not yet established the motives behind the attacks although some believe that they are racially motivated.
