United States Condemns Abduction & Torture Of Zim Activists
The United States of America has expressed concern over the abduction and torture of a human rights activist, Tatenda Mombeyarara and MDC Youth Assembly official Blessing Kanotunga.
The duo was abducted on separate occasions by groups of armed men in the dead of the night, tortured and dumped and had grievous injuries inflicted on their bodies. The assailants were allegedly armed with assault rifles.
Writing on microblogging site, Twitter, the U.S. embassy in Harare said:
The U.S. government is concerned about renewed reports of abductions and assault of civil society members and opposition party members.
Harassment and intimidation have no place in a democratic and pluralistic society. #RespecttheConstitution #humanrights.
We will be visiting victims of the latest violence against civil society and opposition activists to hear their stories and document their injuries. We call on the GOZ to condemn these attacks and hold those responsible to account.
