Illegal Gold Panners Invade Gushungo Farm And Dairy

The former first lady of Zimbabwe has reportedly enlisted the help of the government to drive away illegal gold panners at her Mazowe farm The Sunday Mail reports.  The illegal panners targed the farm after Grace and family spent more time in Singapore where the former president was reportedly receiving treatment before he died on 6 September 2019. The panners took advantage of the family’s absence and descended on the property where they destroyed property and interfered with the citrus project.

According to sources who spoke to the Sunday Mail:

The former First Lady raised concern on the menace of the Makorokoza and has since convened with senior Government officials. The officials were able to immediately assist her to remove some of these people and authorities will continue to assist her.

The problem with the Makorokozas is that they have a tendency to keep coming back and we are working towards ensuring that we constantly remove them. The Director Geberal in the office of The President and cabinet has been to the farm and got a first-hand appreciation of what was happening. He saw the damage that was being caused by the Makorokoza and he did his part to assist

Mashonaland Central police spokesman, Assistant Inspector Petros Masikati said he needed time to check on the facts but admitted that gold panners had become a menace in the Mazowe area following the closure of one of the local mines.
