Doctors Offered Land To End Strike
Doctors have been promised 10 hectares of land each if they call an end to the debilitating strike which started on September 3 this year.
The Minister of State for Manicaland Province, Ellen Gwaradzimba, told a gathering at the official unveiling of 10 buses from Esau Mupfumi under the Zupco programme in Mutare on Saturday that the land is available to the doctors as an incentive. She said:
I invited the doctors to my office and asked them why they were on strike yet people are dying in hospitals.
FeedbackI told them that a salary will never be enough. I told them that they should apply for land. I am going to give them 10 hectares each if they are interested.
The situation at the country’s public hospitals is dire as doctors have embarked on an indefinite strike citing incapacitation.
While the Labour Court ruled that the doctors’ strike was illegal, doctors have asserted that they simply cannot afford to go to work.
