Doctors Stand Firm On Interbank Indexed Allowances
The Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) has commended efforts that the government is making to resolve issues affecting health workers.
In a statement on Monday morning, ZHDA secretary-general Tawanda Zvakada, however, reiterated doctors’ demand to have their call allowances indexed to the prevailing interbank rate. Said Zvakada:
We acknowledge the attempts by our government so far in trying to address the genuine pleas raised by our doctors.
Feedback… We maintain our demand for having our on-call allowance reviewed at the prevailing inter-bank rate of that month.
Doctors have been on strike for over a month now citing incapacitation. The government has responded by awarding them a “paltry” 60 per cent which they rejected as insignificant.
