FULL THREAD: Govt Speaks On "China Suspends Projects Over RBZ Invasion Of Escrow Account" Reports
George Guvamatanga, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development in Zimbabwe has dismissed as inaccurate reports which claimed that China suspended infrastructure projects in Zimbabwe after the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe invaded the Escrow Account.
An escrow account is an account where funds are held in trust whilst two or more parties complete a transaction. This means a trusted third party such as Escrow.com will secure the funds in a trust account. The funds will be disbursed to the merchant after they have fulfilled the escrow agreement.
Below is the twitter thread in which Guvamatanga dismisses the reports.
People at RBZ illegally took $10MIL from the money the Chinese Government provided for the funding of various projects that help ordinary Zimbabweans now the Chinese have stopped $1.3BIL Hapana ma Sanctions it’s Corruption and theft Chete Chete
This story is incorrect and not supported by facts. The Government met a delegation from the China Eximbank last week to review current and future projects. All current projects are continuing

So it is correct that the $10 million is no longer in the account and that the Chinese financial institutions have suspended the infrastructure projects?
That is INCORRECT, you as a Lawyer will understand how an Escrow account operates. It has ‘dual ownership’.Also, the Escrow accounts for these projects are not held at the RBZ or a Government-owned bank.
That is also INCORRECT as all current projects are continuing and we are discussing new projects.
