ZANU PF Youth League Boss Arrested For Assaulting A Cop
ZANU PF Youth League Assembly deputy secretary, Lewis Matutu was on Friday night arrested and held at Zvishavane police station after he assaulted a police officer whilst trying to smuggle himself into a bar where Selmor Mtukudzi was performing.
Matutu has linked his arrest to his anti-corruption campaign which implicated a number of senior government officials in underhand dealings.m
He claimed that his arrest was persecution by corrupt people he named and shamed. Posting on Twitter this Saturday after he was released without a charge, Matutu said:
Deputy minister of industry and commerce demands USD on his businesses, pays police officers for protection and police in Zvishavane are making a lot of money out of it, NO TO CORRUPTION!
I’m under serious attack but I will never back off.
Police told Zim Live that Matutu wanted to get into the bar without paying and they blocked him resulting in the quarrel.
Matutu was released after his lawyer allegedly told the police that Matutu’s absence at the graduation ceremony at Great Zimbabwe University this Saturday would be an embarrassment to President Emmerson Mnangagwa who is officiating the ceremony.
They further told the publication that they will pursue the matter after graduation.
