Discharged Doctors (435) Have To Apply For Readmission
The Zimbabwean government has said that dismissed doctors who wish to get their jobs back have to reapply for readmission.
This government position was announced by the acting Minister of Information, Mangaliso Ndlovu during a Cabinet briefing in Harare this Thursday. The Minister said:
Cabinet was informed of a meeting which was held on 15th November 2019 between the Minister of Health and Child Care and representatives from the Senior and Junior Doctors Association.
FeedbackWhile positive strides were made at the meeting, with some doctors showing a willingness to return to work, Cabinet has resolved that those doctors already discharged have to apply for readmission. Government will not rescind its position on the fired doctors.
The government has so far dismissed 435 doctors for “illegally” withdrawing their labour since the 3rd of September this year and snubbing the disciplinary hearing with 43 more yet to appear before disciplinary tribunals.
This comes when the country’s health sector is grounded with public health institutions having inadequate medicines, equipment and workforce.
