Doctors 'Happy' VP Chiwenga Is Back
The Zimbabwe Hospitals Doctors Association (ZHDA) says it is happy that Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is back in the country after a long absence.
The ZHDA issued a statement on its Twitter handle to implore Chiwenga to look into the country’s health system with a view to getting things back to normal. The statement read:
We are happy and we are relieved that our Vice president is now well and we want to extend our gratitude to the Chinese doctors. We welcome him home.
It is our sincere hope that the vice president will now take the opportunity to look into the Zimbabwean health care system and get things back to the normal beginning with ensuring decent salaries for Health staff, working towards uplifting our system to first-world standards.
Chiwenga returned home on Saturday having been in South Africa and then China for medical attention.
The former military general has had run-ins with health workers, at one point firing thousands of nurses who had embarked on a strike, and at another, disdainfully referring to doctors as “labourers”.
