Govt Responds To "Gunfire At MDC Tree-Planting Ceremony" Reports
The government of Zimbabwe has responded to reports suggesting that members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police fired live shots towards the leader of the opposition MDC, Nelson Chamisa saying that they deployed tear smoke to disperse crowds.
Posting on Twitter, the Ministry of Information said:
Police in Marondera had to deploy tearsmoke to disperse an aggressive crowd that was closing in on them. This was after leadership of a political party tried to hold a rally at Dombotombo Clinic without notifying police. For the avoidance of doubt, no firearm was discharged
FeedbackThis comes after the MDC reported that in an assassination attempt, live shots were fired towards their leader and hit a precast wall.
