Victoria Falls Landlords Cash In On ARFSD Conference

Some residents of Chinotimba and Mkhosana suburbs in Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls town have turned their private homes into temporary lodges to accommodate local delegates who are attending the week-long 6th African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD).
Some of the landlords who spoke to NewZimbabwe.com revealed that they are charging as much as US$10 per day per person from their temporary tenants after hotels and lodges in the resort town had run of out accommodation for the over 3 000 delegates attending the conference. Ronny Musabayana told the publication:
I grabbed the opportunity when people came knocking at my door asking for accommodation. So I quickly spruced up the rooms and I am charging US$10 per day per person.
FeedbackI have actually moved my whole family to a friend’s house for a week and will also share the proceeds from the week’s rent.
Victoria Falls Mayor Somvelo Dlamini said the hosting of the conference in Victoria Falls will boost the country’s tourism as visitors have the opportunity to visit the mighty falls across the Zambezi River.
