MDC SG Speaks On Why They Didn't Produce V11s To Prove 2018 Election Victory
Douglas Mwonzora the Secretary-General of the opposition MDC has said that the party, like opposition parties in Malawi, should have produced V11 documents to prove that they had won the presidential election in 2018.
He added that the reason why V11 documents were not produced is that some parties, members to the MDC-Alliance, did not field polling agents, therefore, they had no v11s.
Mwonzora said that the party only presumed that it had won and there was no way they could have proved that they had won or disprove results by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.
He said that he advised the party back then that it was pointless to approach the courts over the matter since they did not have any evidence.
Mwonzora added that following the death of the party founding leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, he advised that they should hold an extraordinary congress, as per the party constitution, to elect a new leader, but his advice was rejected.
He said that if others decide not to attend the extraordinary congress that the Supreme Court ordered, it will be their own funeral as those present will make decisions on their behalf.
Responding to whether he and Komichi are likely to be recalled from Parliament for participating in 2018 on the ticket of the MDC Alliance, he said that they will not be recalled since they participated in the elections as members of the MDC in the MDC Alliance.
He added that there are some people who are not members of the MDCdo not qualify for the Congress and they are the ones advising Nelson Chamisa to boycott the Congress.
Tendai Biti, Jacob Mafume and Welshman Ncube joined the MDC Alliance through their parties, in that order, MDC Renewal and MDC-(Ncube).
