Confederation Of Zimbabwe Industries have done a snap survey of the COVID-19 impact on industries and here are some of the results.
- 88% of companies surveyed failing to source raw materials & access export markets
- 16% of firms sent employees on unpaid leave
- Production & trading volumes down 36%
- Cost of safety measures averaging 14% of annual expenditure
- 46 percent of local firms have already suffered disruptions in supply chains.
This comes amidst a report by The Herald that the industry is feeling the COVID-19 pinch mainly because Zimbabwe’s yearly import bill averages around US$6 billion and any disruption in supplies will affect the economy.
