UEFA Tells EPL To "Finish The Season Or Use Play-Offs

UEFA has reportedly told the English Premier League (EPL) to complete the currently suspended season or use playoffs to decide teams that would participate in the Champions League and Europa League next season.

Daily Mail reports that this came out during UEFA’s meeting on Thursday that was meant to develop guidelines for clubs across the continent on how to get the 2019-20 seasons finished.

Football is likely to resume in June in England after the government further extended the national lockdown as the coronavirus pandemic is rapidly spreading in the country.

UEFA reportedly agreed that leagues that are unable to finish the current season would have to stage one-off play-off games to determine key positions in the table and this would directly affect sides like Chelsea, Manchester United and Sheffield United in the Champions League race.

Meanwhile, some say the play-offs can only be played when it is safe to resume football which therefore makes it unreasonable to have play-offs instead of finishing the current seasons.
