I'm Living In Fear Of Chris Mutsvangwa And SB Moyo - Energy Mutodi

Controversial Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting, Energy Mutodi, said today that he is living in fear of a Chris Mutsvangwa and SB Moyo coalition.

Mutodi posted on Twitter Wednesday afternoon following revelations by ZimLive that he had written to SB Moyo telling him to stay in his foreign affairs ministry lane.

The recent events were triggered by a tweet on 4 May in which Mutodi criticized the Tanzanian president for focusing on prayers instead of a lockdown to curb the spread of Coronavirus in the country. That tweet apparently resulted in the Embassy of Tanzania complaining to Zimbabwe.

Foreign Affairs Minister, SB Moyo then issued a statement on Monday clarifying that Mutodi’s criticism of Tanzania did not reflect the government’s position. This did not go down with Mutodi, who then accused the Mutsvangwas of abusing state media for their political ends. The ZBC had carried SB Moyo’s statement.

Mutodi further wrote to SB Moyo accusing of overstepping his authority in government:

With due respect to your highly regarded office, I wish to remind you that our two ministries operate on a divergent yet complimentary role, with your foreign affairs ministry outward looking while my information ministry is inward.

While my ministry is worried about the public perception on the national leadership, its image, electability and the public approval ratings of the president, your ministry focuses on foreign cooperation and diplomatic engagement, otherwise our two ministries should have been merged if they served the same purpose.

Your public statement, which could have been sufficiently dealt with by a diplomatic correspondence to the Tanzanian embassy, if it mattered, has divided public opinion, first on the definition and meaning of government and whether you had become its Prime Minister in charge of the two ministries

Today, the deputy minister posted on his Twitter:

Living in fear of the Chris Mutsvangwa-SB Moyo coalition. I hope it won’t resort to wartime tactics. Appealing for prayers.

The Mutsvangwas and Moyo have not commented on Mutodi’s statements. Chris Mutsvangwa’s wife, Monica, is the Minister of Information Publicity and Broadcasting.
